Bring on the Pain pt. 2
What’s up kiddies, this month we are going to work on your picking. As this is clearly the most crucial part of playing rhythm. I forgot what the tempos are for the riffs, never the less, bust out your metronomes and start slowly!
Lets take a look at the first one, its’ pretty straight forward. Make sure that
you are using all down picks and as with all of the examples, please note the
accents.
Number two is pretty much the same, but instead of four notes per beat, its six.
It could’ve been written in 4/4 with sextuplets, but that would be easy. The
point of this one is to get out of the normal grouping of four groups of four.
Now that were all warmed up lets look at the third example. Triplets are kinda
difficult for many people to count, to help make sure you get the accents to
line up with the metronome.
If you had a hard time with that last one, you may want to go back and start
from the top, because now it gets ugly. Example four and five are the same riffs
only backwards. The picking patterns are crucial for these.
So how was that…. I hope your really warmed up for this last one. This last
example is shouldn’t be all that bad once you’ve mastered the previous riffs. As
you can see the accents are moved from a quarter note pulse, to an eighth note
pulse. Also notice that on each accent is a chord.
Well that’s all for now, good luck and let me know what you think. See yah next
month.
Practice practice practice and I’ll see you next month.
