Classical Challenge

Hello all my guitar playing friends. This month we are going back in time to practice our shredding with the masters of music. We are going classical. Running through classical pieces on guitar not only helps your technique, but gives you a lesson in theory, and composition. If that wasn’t enough, you can also rip off some really killer licks to add to your solos. So, let us get started.

This first piece that we are going to play is the Brandenburg Concerto no.2 by Bach. This is just the first few bars, but it offers some cool sounding runs. Listen to the midi file for timing of the piece. Please note that the midi file does have bass in it. So, listen to the top note theme, then play along.

Now, isn’t that a nice sounding little piece. Here is a the beginning to the magic flute by Mozart. If you haven’t heard this, go to your local store and buy the CD. Classical CD’s aren’t more than $4(US) last time I checked, which is like a quarter of the price of a normal CD. So do your self some justice if your not familiar with this piece and go buy a CD with it.

Now that we’ve checked out some popular classical pieces from 3 of the many great master composers, it’s time for me to write out some of my favorite little classical passages. Here is a little classical lick that I wrote. Check it. It sounds pretty happy!
